Hopeful Horizons is a 40-year-old local nonprofit children’s advocacy, domestic violence and sexual assault victim service organization that serves a five-county region of coastal South Carolina.
Annually, Hopeful Horizons assists more than 1,200 victims/survivors with holistic services and reaches thousands of students, community members and professionals through prevention, education and training programs.
Hopeful Horizons’ services and programs are provided free of charge thanks to grants and community support.
Hopeful Horizons is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to work closely with the CEO to oversee and provide strategic direction to the fundraising, marketing and communications activities of the organization.
The Chief Development Officer is responsible for achieving Hopeful Horizons’ fundraising/fund development goals as well as ensuring broad-based awareness of Hopeful Horizons’ mission and brand recognition.
The Chief Development Officer will: develop and implement strategies to achieve the organization’s targets for charitable contributions and grant revenue, including donor cultivation, special events, annual campaigns, major gift solicitation and grant writing; ensure best practices in donor engagement and fundraising/fund development are followed; ensure timely, accurate reporting of data and outcomes; develop and promote the effective integration of brand-management, communications, marketing, and fundraising messages and activities across Hopeful Horizons – inclusive of the website.
This full-time position is based in Bluffton, SC, and reports to the CEO of Hopeful Horizons.
As an integral part of the Leadership and Administrative Teams, the CDO ensures effective implementation of policies, procedures, and processes for Hopeful Horizons and assists in budgeting and long-range planning for the organization.
The CDO is responsible for hiring, training and supervising a full-time Fund Development Coordinator and contract staff for grant writing, marketing and/or development.
Travel between Hopeful Horizons’ other office locations and five-county service area is required.
Qualified applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, communications, or related field and at least five years’ experience and a measurable track record of success in fund development (including grant writing/management, donor cultivation and stewardship, events and written appeals).
The successful candidate will: have prior leadership and management experience; have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking; have strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage projects and events from conception through completion; be detail-oriented and able to analyze data to drive decisions and achieve strategic objectives; and be proficient with technology, including office software, donor databases and websites.
A valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.
