Position Description Advertised Job Summary The Beaufort campus librarian provides access services, information literacy instruction, and research assistance for the students, faculty, and community members who use the library’s services.
As a member of the research and instructional services team, this position acts as the liaison for the departments offering courses in Beaufort, and for departments and disciplines that will be selected based on the candidate’s interests, and the needs of the campus and liaison program.
The candidate will provide research services and consultations in person, by phone, on Microsoft Teams, Blackboard, e-mail, text, and chat.
This position will be responsible for the instructional program for first-year students including foundation courses such as English 101 and UNIV 101 in collaboration with the other research and instruction librarians.
The Beaufort campus librarian supervises the two, part-time library staff.
This position participates in collection development, and collection maintenance for areas of assigned responsibility, and oversees the Beaufort campus collection, a unique collection of resources related to the reconstruction era in Beaufort, South Carolina.
The incumbent works a flexible schedule of 37.
5 hours per week, including nights and weekends as needed.
The Beaufort campus librarian is expected to work on the Bluffton campus library regularly to engage with colleagues, attend meetings, provide research, and instructional services, and meet with faculty and students in-person when requested/needed.
Essential Duties: Collaborate with the USCB Library Research and Instruction Team to create student learning outcomes, instruction, digital resources, and assessments that correlate with the USCB Library Strategic Plan, Academic Master Plan, and the Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
Plan, develop, and teach information literacy instruction sessions for assigned departments and disciplines, first-year foundational courses, and other courses on the Beaufort and Bluffton campuses as needed in collaboration with the research and instruction team.
Provide reference/research services in-person and by e-mail, telephone, text, Blackboard, Microsoft teams, and chat to students, faculty, staff, and public patrons.
Ensure coverage for the circulation desk at USCB Beaufort Library, including staffing the desk when needed.
Assist with staffing at the Bluffton Library when needed.
Supervise library staff in Beaufort.
Oversee the management of the new library space including collection development and management and coordinating resource access during the remodeling process.
Coordinate with the Beaufort County Public Library and the Technical College of the Lowcountry to maximize access to library resources and services for students and faculty in Beaufort.
Ensure collection of essential statistics and reporting for internal and external surveys and reports through LibAnswers, etc.
Serve as the liaison for assigned departments.
Provide collection development services for the Beaufort Library collections and assigned academic departments which includes digital collections, monographs, and serials.
Coordinate cataloging for digital and print periodicals.
Manage weeding and collection maintenance.
Develop procedures for putting print and digital materials in Alma in collaboration with the Bluffton campus library.
Create and maintain course and subject specific LibGuides, Blackboard materials, digital, print, video, and other learning and marketing materials for Beaufort and assigned departments in collaboration with the USCB Library research and instruction team.
Market and conduct outreach activities of library instruction and services to USCB and local community.
Collaborate with other librarians to create marketing and outreach plans.
Design and create USCB Library print and digital marketing material in collaboration with the Research and Instruction team.
Contribute to library social media efforts, such as Facebook and library webpage.
Develop collegial working relationships with faculty and library colleagues to promote and expand library services both in-person and online.
Manage the creation of book displays and exhibits in Beaufort.
· Manage the USCB Beaufort Library institutional repository, Scholar Commons o Serve as liaison to the Scholar Commons staff in Columbia.
o Create local workflow for projects for the USCB Library.
o Coordinate Scholar Commons projects including theses, faculty scholarship, artwork, and exhibits, etc.
Manage access services in Beaufort.
o Coordinate services with the Bluffton access services operation.
o Ensure coverage for the access services functions in Beaufort.
o Ensure on-going training for the access services staff in Beaufort in library collection maintenance, and Alma service delivery.
Stay up to date with the profession through attending conferences, participating webinars, reading relevant literature, etc.
Train library staff when needed.
Develop policies and procedures for the Beaufort campus library.
Participate in general collection development and maintenance.
Manage Alma services and collection maintenance for the Beaufort campus library.
Other Duties: Develop professionally by engaging in scholarly activities, attending professional conferences, participating in webinars, reading the literature, etc.
Serve on library committees internally, regionally, and as appropriate, nationally.
Serve on campus-wide committees.
