GENERAL SESSIONS ATTORNEY/PUBLIC DEFENDER'S OFFICE

*ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER* (General Sessions Attorney): The Assistant Public Defender will handle all General Sessions charges.
Provides legal assistance to indigent defendants and legal assistance to assigned clients.
Will answer questions and provide information; handles telephone calls and assists caller when possible, by answering questions and providing information.
Minimum Requirements: * A Juris Doctorate degree of law from an accredited college or university * Member of the South Carolina Bar * Ability to work in a team environment Preferred Qualifications: * Must have a good attitude, common sense and an eagerness to handle a variety of cases * Must be able to work well with a team including legal assistants, investigators, and other co-workers * Must have experience with handling serious and most serious cases * Must be organized and be able to work independently in meeting deadlines * Must have excellent criminal court experience * Must be able to utilize and learn case management software * Requires excellent written and oral advocacy skills OPEN UNTIL FILLED SALARY: $67,000 annually All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
