The Founding Teacher, Creative Arts position at Meeting Street-Jasper & Beaufort requires a combination of skills in an entrepreneurial environment.
You will be helping start a new public charter school from the ground-up, building from the track record and experience of Meeting Street Schools in a new context and under a new set of governance structures.
You will be building our creative arts program from the ground-up, and it will require a “Founding Teacher’s Mentality” to do so.
This includes overseeing the work happening during the school day and in our after-school programs.
The hours for this position are 9:15 am to 5:30 pm daily, as it covers extended day.
Note: The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Other duties will be required and assigned.
Certain roles, which will be discussed between the candidate and their hiring manager, may have specific coverage assignments, inclusive of, but not limited to: Extended Day Hours, Family/School/Recruitment Events, etc.
Responsibilities Teach students the fundamentals of art theorem and guide students through art projects that are appropriate for elementary age students Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment that excites and invests students as they reach their full potential Build classroom community and relationships with families, participating in a powerful team that ensures all students make outstanding academic progress Adapt teaching for the benefit of each student and collaborate with other educators for support and ideas Commit to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration Model MSS’ Path to Success skills and Core Values and support the development of those skills in students and peers Introduce music standards based on age and grade through music theory, music composition, music interpretation, music literature and genres, instrumentation knowledge and musical performance.
Direct and produce school production(s) annually Teach introductory theatre arts/drama class to early grade students Support outstanding academic achievement and student character development Create innovative and aligned lesson plans related to music, art, and movement Assess student learning on a consistent basis and adjusts instruction to meet individual student needs Provide homework assistance Build classroom community and relationships with families, participating in a powerful team that ensures all students make outstanding progress Oversee and Provide day-to-day oversight of extended day programming, including the coordination of staff, students, families, vendors, rooms, finances, equipment, meals, transportation, etc.
Educational Background and Work Experience Creative Arts background required, including some production skills Bachelor’s degree required, in education and/or a creative arts discipline Successful prior experience teaching or working with students in under resourced communities, preferred Valid SC Certification, preferred The salary for this position begins at $50,000 and is competitive and commensurate with experience, education, and certification.
