POSITION PURPOSE: To create and maintain a positive, stimulating environment for students to promote a culture of learning.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
Prepare, administer and evaluate tests and classroom assignments following curriculum guidelines.
Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic difficulties, or special academic interests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning balanced physical education programs, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and to provide time for changing clothes, instruction, exercise, and sports activities.
Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movements.
Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to an extent feasible.
May teach one or more classes of adapted physical education for students with orthopedic and/or medical problems.
Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of pupils.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education workshops and clinics provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid South Carolina teaching or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
EXPERIENCE: Must have completed a program of study in education from an accredited college or university.
