Position Description Advertised Job Summary Applications are invited for a full time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor.
Candidates must have earned a doctorate in biology.
Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral experience.
The candidate’s area of specialization falls broadly into developmental biology.
Although other specialties in biomedical sciences will be considered.
Teaching requirements for this position include a core course in Cell and Molecular Biology and upper-level courses in Developmental Biology and Histology, with the possibility of other upper-level offerings in the candidate’s specialty.
The successful candidate must have a commitment to undergraduate teaching, including students from underserved and diverse cultural backgrounds, and the ability to integrate diverse undergraduates into their active research and scholarship program.
The successful candidate will also have published research commensurate with years since receiving Ph.
D.
and the ability to develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program involving students that will lead to original, peer-reviewed publications.

USCB is a small, primarily undergraduate institution (~ 2000 students) and is located in a National Science Foundation “Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research” (EPSCoR) state.
The position will be housed at the Bluffton “main” Campus, which is located where Beaufort and Jasper Counties meet.
Occasional teaching duties may be required at the Beaufort Campus, which is home to our rapidly growing undergraduate Marine Biology Program and is located in the heart of the historic city of Beaufort.
The county is known for its numerous Sea Islands that surround one of the largest expanses of Spartina marsh on the eastern coast of the United States (~12% of W.
Atlantic salt marsh) and borders the 350,000-acre ACE Basin (described as “One of the last great places” by the Nature Conservancy).
USCB has stewardship over Pritchards Island, with opportunities for funding of student/faculty research that focuses on the island.
Students choose USCB for our unique location, small class sizes, and hands-on approach to learning in upper-level classes.
