SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, manages BJWSA drinking water distribution system model and wastewater/sanitary collection system model.
Coordinates closely with Engineering Leadership Team related to infrastructure activities that include planning, design, land development, and capital improvement projects.
Intended outcomes of the position include active updates to BJWSA Hydraulic Models (WaterGEMS and/or SewerGEMS), alternative development, involvement with other BJWSA activities related to life-cycle cost analysis and support to BJWSA.
Duties include but are not limited to: The work requires a strong knowledge in water distribution systems, sanitary collection systems, and wastewater pumping stations parameters.
Familiarity with environmental laws and regulations, including those set forth by the EPA is required to be successful.
A high degree of organization is required with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail for data collection and analysis.
Candidates must be self-motivated, highly organized and possess excellent writing and communication skills.
Reviews GIS records, record drawings, construction plan, draw down tests, pump curves, and related information for consideration and inclusion within the BJWSA hydraulic model.
Develops and/or maintains the BJWSA hydraulic model for drinking water distribution system and wastewater/sanitary collection system.
BJWSA utilizes Bentley WaterGEMS as our preferred hydraulic modeling software.
As a part of model setup, the candidate shall have experience in performing field reconnaissance of system conditions and be able to coordinate field work together with utility personnel.
Coordinates with other engineers to obtain and verify hydraulic data for inclusion within the model(s).
Works with BJWSA Engineering and Planning staff to developer, evaluate, analyze, and recommend alternatives for infrastructure improvements.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Duties will primarily be performed in an office environment utilizing a computer and computer based hydraulic modeling software in a team environment.
Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
Minimum of three years’ experience in engineering related functions and/or project management required.
Must possess extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of hydraulic modeling as applied to drinking water infrastructure, sanitary collection system infrastructure, and wastewater pumping stations.
Experience in ArcGIS is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Professional Engineer (Preferred), or Engineering Intern Certification required.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.

Computer Proficiency: Must be proficient with computer software including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and mapping.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes when operating equipment and motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, tools, etc.
Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
Must be adaptable to performing in uncomfortable physical conditions and under stress when confronted with emergency situations, difficult personalities or tight deadlines.
